TOPCOAT: EXTERIOR WATERPROOFER

Weatherwood’s EXTERIOR WATERPROOFER protects stained wood color against cupping, splitting, and warping. Exterior Waterproofer doesn't form a film on top of wood, but actually penetrates into the wood and encapsulates wood fibers and forms a water barrier. This allows Weatherwood stained wood to patina and silver out like barnwood.

Step 3: Protect and Finish

Our Exterior WaterProofer protects wood from the inside out, that means moisture will sheet off. Designed for consistent results across professional applications and production environments.

  • WATER–BASED
  • INTERIOR & EXTERIOR
  • EASY APPLICATION
  • COMMERCIAL & RESIDENTIAL USE
  • SIMPLE SOAP AND WATER CLEAN UP
  • VOC FREE

Part of the Weatherwood Finishing System

Step 1 — Create the Color
Step 2 — Refine with Maintenance Oil (optional tonal adjustment)
Step 3 — Protect with Architectural Topcoat

Performance Overview

  • Water-based reactive formulation
  • Non-film forming
  • Suitable for professional application and production environments
  • Product should be reapplied every 5-7 years, or when water stops beading on the wood.

Application Methods

  • Brush Application — lighter, more controlled
  • Spray Application — efficient, even coverage in production environments
  • Flood / Saturation — deeper tonal development and richer character

Compatible Substrates

Because Weatherwood reacts with natural tannins, final color will vary based on species density and composition. Sample testing is recommended prior to production or specification.

Suitable for use on:

  • Hardwoods
  • Softwoods
  • Veneers
  • Reclaimed lumber
  • Pressure-treated lumber
  • Most tannin-bearing species
Note: Do not apply over Weatherwood Maintenance Oils, as Exterior WaterProofer must be able to penetrate wood to protect.

Intended Use

For exterior applications. Protect the finish with Weatherwood Architectural Topcoats:

  • Weatherwood Exterior Waterproofer for decks, fences, siding, soffit, doors, shingles, furniture, etc.
  • Two coats of waterproofer should be applied to all wood surfaces, especially the ends
  • Protects 5-7 years

Note: When using with traditional polymer stains, apply the Waterproofer first, then apply the exterior stain or paint overtop of the sealed wood.
