MAINTENANCE OIL APPLICATION

APPLICATION BY HAND

MATERIALS

  • Either *2 clean, lint free rags or *brush and 1 clean, lint free rag
  • Gloves
  • Weatherwood Maintenance Oil

PREP

  1. STIR Oils well, materials at the bottom of the can must be redistributed. Different containers should be should be mixed into a bucket before use.

APPLY

  1. Use a rag or brush to apply oil to the wood's surface, working boards by board or in sections.
  2. Apply oil and wipe off from 5-10 minutes with new clean rag. The longer the oil sits, the whiter the effect. Do not allow it to dry completely on the surface before wiping back, this can cause streaks of permanent pigment on wood's surface.
  3. Keep working in sections, applying with one rag and wiping with the other.

SECOND COAT

  1. Apply up to 3 coats of maintenance oil. Each coat will continue to lighten/darken the finished product. Wait 24 hours between coats.

DRY TIMES:

  1. After 24 hours the floor can be used with caution.
  2. Fully cured after 72 hours.​

CARE

  1. Re-apply every 1-2 years, or as needed.

TOPCOAT

  1. ​Allow maintenance oils to fully cure before applying our Varnish (millwork) or Polyurethane (flooring) overtop.

APPLICATION BY FLOOR MACHINE​

**Product coverage is decreased when using this application method, so please plan accordingly. Coverage using a floor machine will decrease ~25%. Coverage on soft woods may also decrease.MATERIALS

  • Weatherwood Maintenance Oil
  • Padco Roller
  • Floor Machine or Orbital
  • Woca White Polishing Cloth
  • Beige Polishing Floor Pad
  • White Polishing Floor Pad

PREP

  1. STIR oil container well before and during use. Different containers should be should be mixed into a bucket before use.

APPLY

  1. Apply the oil with a short-haired paint roller in an even coat onto approx. 50 sq. ft. of floor. If dry spots appear, apply more oil.
  2. Leave the oil to be absorbed for 5-10 minutes. Pick a length of time and stay consistent
  3. The area is now polished with beige polishing pad under orbital buffer or with floor machine until surface appears saturated.
  4. Polish the floor using cotton cloth under white floor pad to remove any excess oil. Repeat steps until the whole floor has been polished. The floor should not appear wet and there should not be any excess oil left on the surface after polishing.

SECOND COAT

  1. Apply up to 3 coats of maintenance oil. Each coat will continue to lighten/darken the finished product. Wait 24 hours between coats.

BUFF

  1. ​When using Maintenance Oil as a stand alone finish, floor can be dry-buffed with white polishing pad, 6-8 hours after application. If a silk-mat surface is required, the finished floor may be buffed with 1 oz. of Oil to 50 sq. ft. of floor. This should be done between 6-12 hours after first application. The oil must be polished thoroughly into the floor, remove any excess oil from the surface.

MAINTENANCE OIL SCRATCH REPAIR

  1. Vacuum the floor.
  2. Spray the area with Cleaner for Oiled Floors, use Microfiber Cleaning Pad and allow to dry properly.
  3. Apply Oil Refresher according to instructions, use a Microfiber Applicator  Pad

​If you still think the scratches are visible:

  1. Sand the area with very fine sandpaper. ex. 250-320 grit
  2. Vacuum the floor/Use tack cloth to remove dust.
  3. Add oil and make sure you choose the same oil you used previously. Buff into floors, being careful to avoid overlap.
